Professor Corey has presented scholarly papers at meetings of the American Political Science Association, the Southern Political Science Association, the North Carolina Political Science Association and the Florida Political Science Association. Two summers ago, he participated in a roundtable on education financing at Oxford University in England and presented a research paper at the meeting. He has written annotated descriptions of the U.S. Constitution which is published in two leading textbooks on American Government. He also has written articles for published supplemental readers on American government and the Presidency.

In the summer of 2007, Dr. Corey and his wife participated in a political science People to People Ambassador Program visit to China. During the visit to China, the party visited Beijing, Guilin and Shanghai, smaller villages and universities, where the party met Chinese colleagues. Dr. Robert Axelrod, the President of the American Political Science Association (ASPA) was the co-chair of a delegation of 45 political scientists from across the US.

At the last annual meeting of the North Carolina Political Science Association, Dr. Corey was elected as President of this organization for a one year term. He also organized the first panel on NC Politics ever presented at an annual meeting of the NC Political Science Association in their 35 year history. In addition, he played a pivotal role in the organization’s decision to hold an annual meeting on the High Point University (HPU) campus in 2006. This was a first for HPU.

Dr. Corey serves on the Advisory School Board of the Immaculate Heart of Mary School, serves on the Board of Directors of the High Point Hispanic Family Center of Catholic Social Services, and recently joined the Board of Directors of Kids Vote where he was just elected as Secretary. He also has been active with the High Point Community Theater and has had roles in two recent musical productions - Fiddler on the Roof and Guys and Dolls.

Since returning from China, Dr. Corey has been actively engaged in researching civic education in the U.S. Results of the National Assessment of Education Progress and Intercollegiate Study Intistitute’s latest national survey 2006 reveal how poorly students are learning about U.S. history, government institutions and basic economics.

Because of this interest in local government and active interest in community organizations, Dr. Corey is running for a seat on the High Point City Council in Ward 6. Dr. Corey has been married to his wife, Daria, for 47 years. They have 4 children and 11 grandchildren-none of whom unfortunately live in North Carolina.” A picture of the Corey children and grandchildren is in the Photo Section.
